Extra Tall Doors

Hey Guys,

Has anyone ever gone over the recommended Conestoga Height limitation of 48 " without adding a center framing rail ? This high end closet job I am doing I am winding up with a few doors that will be approx. 60" tall. Adding the center rail just throws the whole design out of whack. (Looks plain ugly, and does not transition well with the matching paneled walls ).

The doors are oak flat panel with applied mouldings (CRP10161).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The door will more than likely warp on you, Depending on the moisture content of the material being used. I have built them before in house and most did ok and occationally you will get that style that wants to do its own thing. Good Luck.

I hear that...I put some tall doors without center stiles in one of our bathrooms about three years ago and one of them has warped a little. That single piece probably wasn't as dry as the rest and (DUH! ) I didn't check the moisture content before using them. The humidity in the bathroom doesn't help either.

You will be lucky to get a 4/4 door that tall to stay flat period, let alone with just one large panel. Can you split the door 2/3 or 1/3 to improve the look. Or maybe line up the center rail with the top rail of the shorter doors?

Hi Vince,

Just an FYI, I think Conestoga will make taller doors without the center rail but they will not guarantee that product.
