FF stile widths for joined cabinets

Post by Gene Davis »

If separate cabinets are to be joined, stile-to-stile, wouldn't you slim down the side stiles to maybe 1" width, to avoid the wide-stile-with-vertical-joint look?

For design ideas, I often go to the Crown Point Cabinetry site, and look at their pics. Here is an installation in their "Shaker" lineup of looks, and if you look at the paired stiles at cab joints, the total width being more than the stiles of doors, it looks as if they are using something like 1.5" stile widths at sides. I don't like the look, and would prefer slimmer.

What do you do?

Hi Gene

I've been making FF Cabinets and Kitchens for over 30 years and I have always halved my Stiles 60mm for one 30 mm twice=60mm
If you like the look just do it.

Gene, due to copyright concerns, it's best to provide a LINK to a web site rather than using what is probably copyrighted images. Please provide a link.

I try to use 1 1/2" FF. then when two cabinets butt together I use 1 1/4" overlay hinges to make the door gaps 1/2". For flush doors like your picture I would definitely 1/2 the mating stile to get the even space. Anything else is just not a custom look.
