I just finished the week long class at Thermwood, but evidently my memorizer is not working well. I am trying to attach face frames and panels to angled cabinet parts, but can't find the process in the manual.
On the first cabinet, the left end is 36", but the right end is only 20". No matter how I do it, the frame attaches itself to the left end just fine, but stands off the right end 16". I have unsuccessfully tried the attachment tool, but obviously I am missing a step or two (or 3 or 4).
On the 2nd cabinet, I am building a headboard for a bed. At the base, the depth of both ends is 10". It stays at 10" until you get 17" high, then I begin an angle on the front of each end sloping toward the top of each end. At the top the depth of the top panel is 5-3/4". I need to attach a flat panel (teak plywood) to the entire front of this piece. Again, I can't seem to find the procedure in the manual, especially for the angled part.
I promise I am doing better than this on most other aspects of designing. Can any of you experienced oldtimers help a middle aged rookie?
Thanks,
Ron Porter

Re: Quick Question about attaching frames to angled parts
Ronald,
For the face frame;
You will have to remove the face frame from your angled cabinet by turning face frames off in construction settings.
Make another cabinet that has everything removed except the face frame and then rotate and size it properly to fit your angled cabinet and create an assembly. You can use the Alignment tool to attach the face frame to the cabinet once you have rotated it.
For your headboard;
You will have to take the cabinet ends into the part editor and use the Chamfer tool to cut the angle.
You will then add a Display Panel Properly sizes for the Teak Panel.
Once again it must be rotated properly and then attached using the alignment tool or by sight.
Be sure to Associate this panel to your headboard cabinet and save it. If you don't associate the part it will not save with the cabinet.

Re: Quick Question about attaching frames to angled parts
Thanks Kerry.
I spoke with you a couple of months ago to get your recommendations about ecabs. Your input convinced me to take the course. I also got your cab library and am using it as well. I only wish my memory worked as fast as Dan taught the class. I have already designed several projects just over the last week or so, but now these angled projects had me stumped.
Could I ask you another question about the front panels on the teak headboard................You mentioned a display panel. I have found 2 ways to create a face panel - one was to simply create a face frame, delete all the parts except the base part, the re-size it to become the panel. The only problem with this is that it is now listed as hardwood instead of plywood. I also created a stretcher, and re-fit it to the proper size. Both of these approaches look fine, but I am sure that I must be missing something obvious. What is the easiest way to create this properly?
Sorry for sounding so inept. Maybe in a few months I won't get stuck looking for such basic information.

Re: Quick Question about attaching frames to angled parts
Ronald,
For your Display Panel,
Go to the Cabinet/Assembly Editor
Click the Radio button on the left for Display Panels
This will open a dialog box where you can enter the size of the panel and choose a sheet stock

Thanks Kerry. Got it. Much simpler.
Maybe I could fly you to Atlanta about 1 week out of every month to continue to show me how to use my mouse!!
