Problem With Design Changes

Post by Michael Rodgers »

I have used the software a fair amount and am comfortable with it, but get frustrated when setting up the libraries. The cabinet box is the easy part to setup, its the hardware setup I hate. Is there anyway to change drawer boxes, door styles, and hardware globally? I have a copy of one of the big software programs and it is parameter based and it has spoiled me in this respect. The thought of drawing a library for every door, drawer, hardware, and cabinet combination we do is quite overwhelming, and hope there is an easier way to do it.

I am not a power user, and I may be wrong about this, but the only way I have found to build a library of seeds that will all have common hardware, doors, and drawerboxes is to make one basecab seed of each "type", one wallcab seed, and one each of some of the more unique things like susan bases, blinds, corner wallcabs, etc., then use those seeds as "starters" for all your other configs.

Here is an example, using basecabs. Once you have built one seed for a cab with a top drawer and door below with one or more pullout drawers inside, all your hardware and door settings, plus construction settings for doors, drawers, and drawerboxes, will be set. That seed can be then used to make other seeds for the cab with one LH door, another with one RH door, one with double doors under a single drawer, and for all the desired numbers of pullout drawerboxes you may need in your library.

I've not found any way to do a global.

In the "build a room full of cabs" mode, you can globally change all the doors and drawerfronts, however, but I don't think that is what you are after.

I've not found a way to do a global change of doors and drawerfronts for a batch of cabs. I don't think it can be done.

It can take many hours to build a solid library of seeds, but once done, it's done.

But that said, you'll have to suffer along with the rest of us, should you wish, at some time, to change, for example, from using Blum Tandem slides to Grass Elite slides. If anything differs (hole pattern, drawerbox insets, slide distance up from box bottom, etc.), then you will have to go through the library, seed by seed, and make your edits. This was discussed in a recent thread.
