DXF.File

Hello Everyone,
I have imported a DXF.file into the line drawing editor from an outside CAD System, have i imported into the correct location? The part is there, but can i now take the part into the cabinet area, as i cant find a function to do this,

The Line Drawing Editor is just that--drawings only.

You will have to create the part in either the Part Editor or Display Part Editor (if it is 3D). If it is 3D and you use the Display Part Editor, the part will not be nested or cut.

thanks dan but is there a way to take the image into the part editor so i can get the measurements.

Are you making a part to be cut using a CNC? Is it a 3D part or is it a shape to cut from sheet stock?

I would create a display panel the same size as your sheet stock (48x96?), take it into Contour Mode of the Part Editor then load the DXF onto it.

This is the problem i am getting, the only place where i can seem to load the DXF.File is in the line manager. When i attempt to open the file in contour mode only a couple of the lines appear!

Then it is probably using splines, which are not supported in eCabinets.

If you post the file here someone can look at it and probably convert it for you.

Dan i am unable to upload the files, there is an error about uploading DXF.files. can i import any other file formats into part editor?

Zip the file before uploading it. DXF is the only thing you can import.

One other thought Leigh, did you create the DXF yourself? If so, go back to your original CAD model and change any splines to arcs then export the DXF.

Parasolid files are also supported: .x_t , but I'm not sure if it will help you.

i dont have an option of saving it as a parasolid file! Could you explain spline to me, i will then give this a try. thanks dan

Splines are the "normal" method CAD programs use to create curves. eCabinets cannot use splines and has to use arcs instead.

Someone else can probably explain this far better than I can.
