Software change request: hardware holes for leg skids

Post by Gene Davis »

I began a thread about this in a post dated December 13. I want to expand upon it, and request an acknowledgement from someone on the Thermwood team that it will be considered for a future update.

Dowel-fixed and "through hole" leg levelers are available from various cabinet hardware manufacturers, and require for installation, that either through-holes or stopped holes be cut into the deck of basecabs. The Camar brand that we use need a 15mm dia. hole x 11mm depth, cut into the bottom face of basecab decks.

Basecabs typically get four (4) legs, or if over a specified max width, get six (6).

The parameters for leg holes are a.) hole diameter, b.) hole depth (or through), c.) center offset, front, d.) center offset, rear, e.) center offset, left side, f.) center offset, right side, and g.) width maximum to be exceeded when center holes (front and back) are added.

Today's workaround is by use of the part editor, with constraints added to handle the offsets. It would be more readily dealt with via a proven and machine-tested software change, to have it handled something along the lines of what I am requesting here.

Re the workaround, a batch job was cut for me in a production share shop this morning, and one basecab deck with this workaround done with the part editor, got all screwed up, with the cutter going deeply into the spoilboard, and more disaster details. All the other basecabs in the job had similar decks, which machined OK.

There is something funky here with the way the code goes to the machine, which needs to be checked out. Having a wreck on a part cut from expensive prefinished ply panel is no fun.

I would also really like to see hardware holes associated to leg levellers :)

Gene
I will pass this along to the programmers. Thank you for your input.
