Molding question

I normally use a standard molding on my renderings, so I have not tried this before. When using a crown molding that has a place for a rope molding, do you have to manually install the rope on each piece of crown? I know how to manually do this, but I was currious if I have over looked an option that will allow you to install it without having to manually do this.

I am not an expert but I would say yes you do have to do it manually. They are separate in the mldgs. section. I haven't tried to do one section and then COPY and PASTE it so maybe you could try that. I prefer to do my layouts like that instead of having them on the cabs but maybe I am (out to lunch) wrong.

My gut tells me it will have to be done manually, but I was hoping someone would tell me I have overlooked something here. I think I will stick with the old stand by molding I normally use. Not enough hours in the day anymore.

Stick by your gut feeling Damon. You have to add the rope manually.

One thing to consider--rope molding takes a LOT of memory in Custom Layout. If you are planning on doing presentation views, you might want to do one with rope molding and one without. Use the one without to do nesting, cut lists, etc and the other for showing the customer.

Same thing goes for knobs and pulls. Some knobs and pulls also use a ton of memory in Custom Layout.

Thanks for the input Dan. I knew about the knob and pull thing. I very rarely use them, but I was not aware of the rope slowing things down. I will probably just make up one or two individual cabs for display purposes and use a standard molding for presentation.

Just remember this: the more complex any 3D object is, the more memory it will need. As you can guess, rope molding has hundreds, if not thousands, of coordinates and, from a software perspective, is very complex.
