a couple questions for the big brains

Post by Jason Gooch »

...and that means anyone who can help. I've got an ongoing dilemma regarding double door reveals. When I try to change the reveals for a double door, I can't really predict what's going to happen - I can't input left or right reveals, it asks for "hinge side" and "open side". Is there a way to deal with this? Often I have to delete and reapply the doors, which is a pain.

Thanks - Jason

I'm also having the same problem, I must indicate that I'm very new to the software but have done this a couple of times, I created a new material give the thikness of 5/8 and called it melamine white, made a new custom cabinet and it doesn't nest, I decided to try one from the standard cabinets and also no longer nests.

Sorry, I have found my problem, I have 2 computers and the desktop I didn't update, so went and tried and same happen, after looking around found that when when I'm on cabinet editor it cant nest, seems that creating a wall and installing the cab on the wall and after going to nest is works.
Jason Gooch if you did the same try to first create a wall install the cab them clic on the icon nest diagrams and when the other window opens clic on nest.

Jason, I think the best way to make adjustments to double doors is to delete them, hilite the opening then add new doors. That way it brings up the add double door settings dialog, there you can make the adjustments you need.

Hi Rick - thanks for your suggestion, however I'm not getting good results. In this instance I'm adjusting a double-door below a drawer. If I delete and reapply it, it now chooses to ignore the drawer and build it up to the top of the cabinet.

Also, I tried applying changes to just one door of the double-door arrangement - selecting the left door, and assuming that "hinge side" means left reveal and "open side" means right. It seems to work properly, then when I move into the main screen the reveals go all over the place.

I'll attach an image and the cabinet here. Any more suggestions would be very appreciated.

Thanks Jason

Hey Jason, two things I did: First I changed the shelf that you are using as a rail from adjustable to fixed. Second, I added the drawer box in its own editor and not from the Door/Drawer Editor. The doors seem to be stable now. I basically build the same way you do and for some reason (long ago, can't remember) I stopped adding the box with the front. I also found that if I'm having height issues with the fronts I will tweak the opening size between the fixed shelf and the top rail, or between two fixed shelves. HTH
Trying it again it seems that it is just the shelf that is the issue. :)
