counter top question

Post by Gary Puckett »

Need some more advise,

Made a counter top in the display cube, needed it to be wood and not granite and it works great. When I went to my cutlist the counter top was not there.

What do I have to do to get the cutlist to recognize the cube as material for a counter top ?

Thanks Gary

Gary,

You will have to create a sheet good for your material and then create the top using as a Display Panel not a Display Cube.
The Display panel will show up in your cut list and nesting.

Kerry

Went in and changed cube to a panel and it still is not in the cutlist.

I am doing this in the layout mode, because 2 -3 cabinets are being covered with one top.

Just change the image to the one that you want when you are in the countertop editor. Then add your CT.

Gary,

Be sure that the sheet stock you create is large enough to cut the top for it to show in nesting.
If your top is 12' long your material must be over 12'.

The panel will show up in your Sheet Component Listing in the cut list as a Display Panel Object.

I'm curious as to why you're trying to use a cube or display panel. The standard countertop can span across cabinets with voids and can be edited in the part editor. I haven't checked it out further, but the countertop material does include a cost, so that should extend to the cost reports. In addition, the outline of the countertop can be extracted to the Line Drawing Editor (LDE), dimensioned and printed, but the countertop would not be listed on the cutlist or included in the Nest Diagram.

When saved, a display cube that is exported and then edited in the Display Part Editor can be checked to include in cutlist and can be assigned a cost. This does show up in the reports. The original display cube would have to be deleted and replaced with the Display Object that was saved.

Dennis,

I was thinking that he wants to be able to get costs and nest the pieces. If not then the countertop editor is the way to go.

Wally,

Since version 5.2 you can now change the texture of exixting counter tops using the right click menu in custom layout (rendered view) just like you change wall or floor textures.

Dennis,

Also I noticed that you can change the material in the couter top section but you can't give the new material a price.

Dennis,

Where are you adding a cost to the countertop materials? There is no input box in Preferences.

Gary,

I knew that you were wanting the counter top to go in the bid, but I don't think you can get it there any way but using Display Panels. You can't get costs of the tops using the countertop editor unless you do the display cube thing that Dennis suggested and you still wouldn't be able to nest.

Did you get diplay panels to work? I didn't have any problems.

Gary,

You can change the texture of the door or window trim when you select them but if you are wanting to add your ownd trim profiles you will have to create the molding and place it manually. I created a library of doors with the trim, plinths and rosettes and I use them when I want to add trim to a job. The only problem is you have to have a library for every trim you want to use.

You might have some luck using a part of a cabinet for a door and place molding on it so that it will re-size but I haven't looked into this.

Gary,
I stand corrected about the cost for the countertop material. I did a quick look before and saw that there was a cost field in the material table, but then there is not a cell to input that cost.

Dennis,

There has been discussion in the past with members wanting to be able to add counter-top material cost in eCabinets. The only problem I see is that it would really need to be a pretty detailed job costing section because there are so many different material types and they all have different processing methods.
With natural stone for instance you would have to be able to add costs for cutting to dimension, cutting each hole, every radius or eased corner, as well as every profile used. There would also be much different installation charges for the different materials used. Laminate installation would be much different than granite.

This could end up being a very detailed section of the software.
