Octagon Cabinet Question

Post by Damon Nabors »

I have a request to build an octagon Kiosk. The corner cabinets in the diagram are shaped like the image I have posted. There will be sinks and other equipment located in the corners, so using square cabinets and creating dead spaces is not going to work. They want to be able to use all the cabinet space. The other problem, they want to be able to ship the cabinets to the final destination as knock down cabinets using Rafix connectors. How would you draw this up?

Any Ideas would help.

Thanks,
Damon

Damon,
That is definately a design challenge. We use the rafix and mini fix connectors for a lot of items. We've never been able to figure out how to use the rafix connectors on a non-90degree corner. You can however, use the minifix connectors with a mitre joint post like 262.12.939. Any way you slice it, it is going to be some table saw and boring machine work to get that KD (along with a lot of head scratching).

Damon,
Also, if you look on the bottom of page 316 of the Hafele catalog, it has a handy little chart for calculating cam locations depending on your angles.
