64 BIt Vista

Post by Gary Puckett »

Need to upgrade my computer I have a HP Pavilion a705w its about 5-6 years old. I added 256 MB of memory and e Cab. is running ok need better graphics and if I get to many cabinets in a room starts running really slow.

The problem is everything out there is vista 64. I have been told that I can load my XP restore disk and then choose which program to run vista or XP. Is this true? I know nothing about computers. The tower has a duel processer

Thanks Gary

It is very unlikely that you would be able to use a system restore disk from another computer Gary. Most vendors key the disk to the system it came with and it cannot be used on other computers.

There are plenty of 32 bit Vista computers out there. Take a look at the recommended computer specifications for eCabinets.

Dan ,

I took the specks with me when I went looking for computers. I think they are working on version V6 do you know if that is going to fix this vista problem?

I think version 6 is going to be Vista 32 bit compatible but NOT Vista 64 bit. The Thermwood folks can confirm this.

Either way, the selection of 64 bit software (not just eCabinets) is very small. Some 32 bit software will run in a 64 bit OS but most will not. Why take the risk when there are so many 32 bit systems available? Follow the recommended specs and you will get a computer that will work very well with eCabinets (and everything else).

Look in the Dell Outlet and you can find great prices on refurbished Precision Workstation systems that meet or exceed the recommended specs.
