eCabs request
Hi,
Over here in Australia we use a lot of BLUM metal sided drawer sides. I'm sure you guys at Thermwood are familiar with these and know that they require the machining of two 10mm diameter holes in the back of the drawer front for connection to the metal drawer sides. It would be great for you guys to write into the software the ability to automatically generate these holes. I suspect that a hole pattern format similar to that of a hinge hole pattern would be required.
This would save me so much time as we do make many different drawer configurations. Applying these holes in the contour mode of the part editor and then applying constraints takes forever.
As I have no software programing experience I would not know of the implications in implementing these additions and would hope that its not going to be too involved so that it could be included in an update soon.
I have sent a formal suggestion through the feedback section in eCabs aswell but wanted to voice this out there in the forums to see if other are out there in the same boat.
Would this feature of automatic software generated holes in the back of drawer fronts be beneficial for you guys out there?
Cheers.
Dale

I will pass this along to the programmers. I will post any information they give me.

Hi Justin & Dale,
I too would think this action is very important as you then have your drawer fronts drilled accuratly in relation to metal sided drawer runners. This would be great if you wish to switch to different brands at short notice to either take advantage of a special price or your supplier being out of stock. This should stop the learning curve when switching brands.
I am probably showing my ignorance here of ecabinets but I don't think if you make what we call in Australia melamine drawer boxes the ability to pre-drill the mounting holes in the front of your box front to attach your drawer fronts. If it could drill the box front and the back of the drawer front so as to get the fixing position correct. I don't think you can drill your handle holes as well. If that was possible to do it would save a lot of stuff ups in level, hole spacing and hole size. We leave the handle fixing as a job for junior staff and pay dearly for this sometimes.
The other thing is the ability to route or drill into a drawer bottom. This can't be done at the moment. Could this be a easy bit of code to write?
The applications for this is divisions for items like cutlery or if a entertainment system DVD's. I wouldn't mind using a V cutter and writing my business name and details in the top drawer so when the plastic cutlery tray is removed it shows up.
Come on Justin, when know one is looking ,slip this request in at the top of the white board.
Regards
Neville

I agree that it would be great to be able to take drawer parts into the parts editor and make alterations to the parts. Sounds like a "Feed Back" topic.

Re: eCabs request
I would think having the Part Editor work with the Drawer Box Editor would solve most of those issues. That way you could drill and notch where ever you like to accommodate any hardware. How about for Version 6?

Re: eCabs request
Dale I brought this up about 2 years ago. I fail to see how doing this is any different to the relationship of a hinge boss hole in a door to the plate holes in a carcase side, just looks like the programmers never got around to applying the same logic to drawer fronts
Re: eCabs request
Let me remind you guys that the more and more feed back requests or suggestions we get, the better your chances are of getting it added to the software. If everyone would like to be able to take a dbx to part editor then the more feedback suggestions we need. Keep up the great ideas and send them in every chance you get. We will do what we can.

FYI
I spoke with the Software Engineering Manager and he told me the ability to take the drawer boxes to the part editor was on the list.

Re: eCabs request
Thanks Jason for following that up.
Looks like I owe you a pizza or two. I bring a Kangaroo meat Pizza over for IWF. Its one of our favourites with Goanna a second choice.
If that's no good I'll just have to buy you a beer if we meet up.
