A Thought About Cut Lists

When we click the Icon for Cut Lists, why not have eCabinets open and export that cut list information immediately to Excel where each member could record a macro to sort this information to their needs? The tabbed information in Excel is much more user friendly than the cut list printout that eCabinets produces and this would eliminate one step in the design process. With the availability of Open Office no one would have to purchase software to use this feature.

Thats the way I do it, I have open office and I always export the cut list to my other program.
I would like all the other items (cabinet hardware) be able to export also.

Are you wanting to automaticly export?

Yes Gary,

The way the eCabinets cut list is formated with all the door parts mixed in with the face frame parts and drawer parts in mixed in with other box parts isn't very user friendly. Instead of eCabinets trying to fix this they could just export the list automatically and trash the other cut list. The Excel cut list can be tailored to suit everyone's needs.

When you export the cutlist from eCab.you can only export the page that is on the screen, so in a way you do have control of what you export.

I buy my doors out and drawer boxes these are two operations I don't have to worry about in the shop. I use to do it all myself, what a relief to have that part of the job done for me.

When I export to Excel it sends the entire cut list which is what I want it to do. What I am talking about in the eCabinets cut list is the fact in board stock it lists by cabinet and will go from left stile to top rail to mid rail then list one of the doors then another mid rail then all the parts of another door then the bottom rail a drawer front parts and finally a mid stile. The next cabinet will sort entirely different. It is not practical to use this cut list to cut from.

Wish I new how to use excel,(will have to make the effort)my guys hate the ecabs cut list like Kerry says it jumps all over the place.Since we don't have a thermwood yet and cut everything on our table saw its a real pain.By the time they work out a workable list its sometimes quicker to calc it up by hand.I'm not bitching about the programme (which is great!) just wish I knew how to load excel and use it!!!

Why on earth would you create the cutlist in eCabinets, export it to Open Office (or Excel for that matter) then import it into another cutlist program?

Could the e-cabs cut list just be reformatted to be more user friendly?

I send mine to a sheet optimizer, which allows different layout scenarios.

The cutlist in eCabinets is automaticly created when you draw the job. So insted of using eCabinets cutlist I have to export it to open office and then take it to cutlist plus.

Thats the procedure to get it to the other program.
