When downloading a 3D file how does one keep it looking the same? I downloaded a file and opened it with the display editor and had to change the appearance because it opened black. In the appearance file there are only solid looking colors. When a tv has a black screen with a trim around it, you lose it and the tv becomes a solid color. Do I need a 3D program to convert files so that they look the same as on the website? I hope I have been clear about my problem.

Re: 3D Files
You have to break it down into layers and apply the texture to each layer to achieve the look you are trying to achieve. Most dxf are layered so you would need some type of cad program to take it apart and save each piece. George posted a brass bed the other day that has all the multiple layers, you can down load it and practice with it.

Re: 3D Files
Thanks Damon. I will do that. Do I need to have a 3D program to do that or can it be done in ecabs? Do you know of any 3D programs that are good yet inexpensive?

Damon,
Accutrans and Itellicad will not explode a 1 layer object to create different layers. You need something like Autocad, or Turbocad.

Gary,
Intellicad will Explode a Drawing. Intellicad is designed to look and work exactly like Autocad. It is as close as you can get to Autocad without buying Autocad.

Re: 3D Files
Gary,
Select the entities to explode by dragging box around them or typing Select in the command line and then choosing All. After Selecting the entities type Explode in the command line or click on the firecracker icon. You may have to select and explode twice to break the drwing into it's parts.
Next is the tricky part of selecting only the parts you want in each layer. This takes some practice using the different selecting techniques and rotationof the drawing. Once you have selected parts, cut or copy them into seperate layers in a new drawing.
