Laptop speed

Post by Iain Hall »

I am trying run Ecab on my laptop and it is soo slow that the laptop may experience a horizontal drop. It is a Gateway with AMD 64 mobile 2.0 gig 1 meg ram running XP SP2. Does anyone have any ideas if I am asking a motorcyle to pull a one ton or if I may just have something set incorrectly. Works OK in custom layout but get into cab editor and 10 - 15 min to process something is good time.

Be nice to get this working so that I could spend some more time with family (be with family make wife happy and still get work done) how is it that the fruits of my labours are enjoyed yet the labour needed to get those fruits is a evil thing.

It's more than likely the video card, or lack of one that's causing your issues.

Speed is okay in Custom Layout but really slow in Cabinet Editor? That is unusual to say the least.

First, I'm assuming you meant 1GB of RAM instead of 1MB. You need more RAM!!! Get at least 2GB.

Second, is this a Turion processor? There have been lots of problems reported by users running eCabinets on Turion processors in laptops.

Next, what is your virtual memory setting? Try setting it to 3072 minimum and 4096 maximum. If you are "letting Windows decide what's best", that will cause big processing delays.

Finally, Rick is on track about the video card. Unless you have a workstation class laptop (and Gateway doesn't make one), you will be seriously underpowered in the video department.

Post one of your problematic cabinet files and someone can take a look at it to be sure it isn't something in the design.

That would only add to the wind chill...yeouch!!! We can't stand it when it gets below 30F here (-1C). Two inches of snow closes everything dow for a day or two.
