Two Questions

Post by Gary Puckett »

Hey guys,

I have two questions

1) How can you make Glass render so you can see through it ? When I hit the render mode I can see right through it, but after I hit presentation it turns black and if I put a shine on it then I get a mirror

2) Is it possible to cut a pocket in a wall ? Like if I wanted to show a ninch in a wall. What I am trying to do is show a tile ninch in a shower.

Thanks
Gary

OK

Got the ninch in the wall. You have to create another wall in front of the wall you want the ninch in and cut the ninches through.

Still stumped on the glass problem :wall:

I'm not sure about your glass problem since I have never had a problem with it. Are you talking about Conestoga doors with glass panels, or something you have made to be transparent? You do have lights in the room, don't you?

As for a wall nook, what I do is to make the wall thickness the depth I want for the nook and cut a hole for the nook. I then put another wall directly behind the first wall. For something like an entertainment center nook the wall might be 24" thick.

Yes Joe

It is a glass window in a room. I take it to the cabinet editor and transparent the part put it back in the room, then select the render button and the glass is transparent. Hit presentation view and it become black and if I give it a shine I get a mirror.

Gary,

You can't use an image and texture matching on a cube and make it transparent. You will have to use no mapping in the display part editor and set your gloss specular and mirror settings.

Thanks Kerry,

I fixed it last night. I had to make a new piece of glass, along with setting the proper setting in the display part editor

Gary,

Also when I have to create a niche in a wall I just cut a hole in the wall and then place a display cube on the back side of the cutout or you can use a display cube for the wall and cut your pocket. this is nice because you can profile the edge of the niche cutout to match radius Sheetrock corners .

Easiest way to make glass is to texture match. Make a cube or a panel in the cabinet editor and then import the HSF with the tray, fork, plate and glass. Highlight the object you want to texture match and right click and choose texture match. Then right click on the glass on the tray. It will go transparent. Save it and then just place it in your room as you would any normal object. To make a mirror import a stainless steel sink and do the same thing with the texture match. You will have a nice shiny mirror.
