I hate to break your bubble Rob, but all that does is change the internal "label" so that a GeForce reports itself to the operating system as a Quadro. The two cards have similar features and the GeForce uses a "features-disabled" version of the Quadro GPU. Those mods do not enable any disabled features.
There are lots of architectural differences between the two cards other than just the GPU itself.
I would NOT recommend that anyone follow this advice as it will void your warranty on the video card.
Now that I've just done a complete project with the mod last nite this is what I notice..
Rendering speed is faster...
Saving a jpg of the render is faster...
The Scroll works faster as well...
However one thing I did notice was in the render mode ( Before rendering ) the D/W had a slightly funny look ( A couple funny angles sticking out )
But when I rendered it looked fine...
The Wireframe seems to work normal..
These differences were not dramatic but were definatly noticible.
The time it took me to save 8 renders on the project was noticibly less than before..
I'm hoping in time I will not find anything negetive about doing this..
Thank you Kerry, the soft-mod changes the characteristics of the card so that it is recognized as a Quadro FX 1700. The Tweak took, it just didn't make any difference. I use the Tweak on my Workstation.(HP 8710w).
Hi Rob
I am keen to try this and have downloaded the relevant software from Techarp, but it does not look like the one on the site and there does not appear to be a tab to softmod the the card
