howdy,
I think I need some help on bone head questions.....

1. how are people printing LDE drawings from ecab?
when you press the print icon it prints the yellow background.
I seem to get cartoon type drawings. thick lines, choppy angle lines, etc.
what I have been doing is printing to ms office document image writer. each page individually and the drag and drop all pages into one, then print. it works..., but I am sure there is a better way. I searched the lde forums this morning.

2. do you have to print the border?


3. can we scale drawings yet?


4. LDE is the hardest most time consuming part of my ecabing. I rarely build the same set of/or single cabinets twice, so I need very specific drawings.

Hi Justin,go to the toolbar in the LDE >grid settings>show grid>off>ok. then open line enhance>2>ok. You may have to play around with the line enhance settings a bit.As far as scale drawings go not available yet .Its on my wish list as well as auto dimension amongst other things!

Hey Justin, try adjusting your arrow size to 1/16x1/32, and your font to around 10 or 12. I find that works pretty good. You can copy and paste from one page to another, that way you can add separate elevations or views to one page, that might get you around using Image Writer. I don't get the yellow background, unless I do a JPG. HTH

To get rid of the yellow background I print all my Line Drawings as .pdf documents. I use Adobe Acrobat but there are several free pdf writers that install as a printer. (Cute PDF, PDF 995, and Primo PDF) In your printer setup select one of these as your printer and it will save the Line Drawing as a pdf that you can print.
The suggestions above for line weight, arrow size and font size are also very important to get a good looking document. Play with the line drawing settings sometime when you are not pressured by a job deadline and get your settings just right for a perfect looking document.

Your drawings look good. HERE is a link to line drawings of a recent job. Make sure your pdf viewer is set to 100%.

I am doing a little better now, but it is still so time consuming.
when I use insert table, I have to hold the curser over the line for maybe 10 seconds before it can highlight and be adjusted.
same with picking certain noeds.even when I zoom way in and hide doors etc. Is this my grafic card settings or do I need to upgrade?
these drawings took me about 1 hour. any advise please.

Great looking drawings Justin.Does seem a bit time consuming when your new to it but you will speed up when your an OLD HAND like Dan and Kerry amongst others.(thats old as in experience not age ) As far as your graphics card goes,yes,the programme is quite demanding but your OS as a whole can effect performance.I'm out of my depth here but there are lots of past posts on this subject.As an afterthought have you gone into settings/preferences and turned down the level of detail? Not sure if this will speed things up in the LDE but worth a try

They are good looking drawings. The slowdown you are experiencing is most likely related to the number of drawing pages and number of objects on the pages.

When you add a room with everything in it to a drawing page, you are actually adding a full 3D copy of all of the objects! Every page has full copies of the objects on it and that can drag down system resources very quickly.

You have questioned your graphics card a couple of times, what are you complete system specs?

Do you have virtual memory set to a static size or do you "let Windows decide?"

my system is the exact recomended ecab system in 2006.

dell precision m70
windows xp pro
intel pentium m
processor 2.13 GHz
1.60 GHz 1.00 GB of ram
NVIDIA quadro FX Go 1400

I may be due for an update.
any suggestions? or add ons. or easy adjustments? new system? or just deal with it?


about two years ago (after 8 years of nothing but building custom cabs)I was offered to a position at a home builder company... I took it. the first 6 months it was the worst decision, then things really really slowed down around here(building in general for the town.). now I realize that I made the right decision. working here I build all the cabinetry and woodwork needed for each insanely oversized monstosidy of a second home needed. So my ecabing hours really went down. but now a few jobs hit all at once and I am ecabing my eyeballs out(back to the good ol days). lots of enjoyable time really . well anyway it is nice to be here, thats my simple plite.

a reply to Dan,
so everytime I take a whole room to the LDE it is a 3d copy,
what I have been doing is taking the room for the top view, then highlight only one wall at a time and copy/paste onto another page untill\ all the wall elevations are drawn... I noticed that when you are in the custom layout area looking at an elevation of a single wall you can take just the single wall to the LDE. is there a trick in any of that or does it matter?

So, does anyone actually like that yellow background for the Line Drawings? Can we have a vote to get rid of that? I would like to see that done for V6, and I bet it doesn't take more than a line of code.

I would still like to see the LDE info saved as another file type, but I know that's not going to happen.
