Another nest issue

Post by Jason Gooch »

Hiya - I've got a couple panels, 650mm x 2430mm walnut, that refuse to nest. The material sheet stock is 1219mm x 2438mm, and the collar is set at 3mm. Ergo, it should fit on the sheet with 2mm to spare, right? Nope. If I change the collar to 2mm, it will work. Is the software having math issues, or am I?

Thanks - Jason

Are you using True Shape or Cut Line? If you are using Cut Line (eother Horizontal or Vertical) it will take into account Saw Blade Kerf from Define Standard Dimensions.

If you use True Shape, than the parts are offset from the edge by the radius of the bits kerf as set up in Standard Settings in Settings and Preferences. In Control Nesting, it can be forced to nest to the edge of the sheet, but then your sheet must be aligned exactly or you have a "fudge factor" (loose tolerance) for your parts.

Ach! Got it - it's allowing the 3mm collar plus the kerf on either side, ergo 12mm total. So my 2430mm panel becomes 2442mm. Thank you Watson and Sherlock, much appreciated.
