Center Back

Post by Leo Graywacz »

When you are mking corner cabinets there are 3 backs. Right back, center back and left back. Earlier we had talked about how to change the center back to a different material so the construction of my cabinet in eCab would be the same as I construct it in real life. (http://www.thermwood.com/forums/viewtop ... f=3&t=9179)

We came to the conclusion that you would highlight the cabinet and then choose change material. Go into the cabinet list isolate the center back and change the material. Well I was able to get the material to change but it didn't put the cabinet together correctly. Because the change had made the back go from 1/2" to 3/4" it cased the right and left backs to float 1/4" away from the cabinets. It looks like it doesn't take in account the new thickness of the back and keeps the length of the center back the same as it did when it was 1/2" thick. Is there a way to fix it?

Leo,

Try going to Construction Settings and then the back tab and put a negative 1/4" left and right inset on the back to compensate for the material change.

Changes the 'center back' back to 1/2" material. The -1/4" makes the rt and lt backs go beyond the sides. I don't think it affects the materials list except for getting the center back to wide. Just another thing I need to put on the list to cut differently then what the list says to. Not a big thi ng. I think the backs are determined by a single formula within the program and nothing we do can affect the way it determines the size of the part. :?

Size resctrictions prevent that.

I will have to do it the other way if I want it to nest properly. Add a display panel and superimpose it on top of the center back and then filter the original center back out of the nest.

Leo,

One other option that I have used in the past. When I found some things (early on) that I couldn't draw in eCabinets to match my construction methods I simply changed my construction method to the way eCabinets wanted to draw it. Saved a lot of aggravation.
