Buffer overrun detected ???

Post by Jim Morelli »

The past couple days i've been getting this box popping up with the heading "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" and in the box it says "Buffer Overrun Detected" "Program:C:\system\THM.exe" clicking ok on this, the program shuts down. Anyone had any experience with this ? Not the most computer literate here but not a complete beginner either, but i've never came across this before. thanks in advance, Jim

Jim,

Take a look at the following suggestions and let us know if this doesn't cover your situation (program@thermwood.com):

1.) Check the part program name (See if it exceeds 15 characters, are there any other characters other than alpha-numeric, etc...)
2.) Check the part program ( Make sure if your running a Main program, that there is a M02 at end of it, if runnnning a sub, M99 )
3.) Make sure there are not multiple programs running other than the THM software
4.) If windwos operating system, shutdown THM software, go to C:\system directory, DELETE "plchist.thm" file, restart THM software

Hi Ryan, thanks for the prompt response with those suggestions, I am 90% sure it has to do with the program name, the programs I run are created by the design dept. with acad and microvellum put onto a server that the machine control is networked with. The question I have now is, when I choose a program to run, the blue heading bar at the top of the thermwood control screen will read, example... Thermwood SuperControl (M:\Beth Isreal\Beth Isreal Cabinets Second Group\PL-5\3_4 mdf_PL-5_PL-5\BID PL-5-007JM.txt) am I correct in thinking that everything in "(---)" is being read by the control as the program name ? If so that's around 80 carecters with some other than alpha numeric. I receive printed out sheets of each nest, the example I used was labled as BID PL-5-007JM.txt, which is 14 carecters, the rest of it is folder after folder getting to the nest I need to run. I feel funny asking but does it sound to you like i'm on the right track, meaning, the program names and the way I load the programs to run may be the issue? I've been running one peticular program for the past three days and the problem hasn't occured since I posted this. Thanks for your thoughts on the matter, Jim

Hi Jim,

In the particular case your describing, "BID PL-5-007JM.txt" is the program name the control is reading. However, with the information you've just displayed, this brings up another good example of what is likely causing your issue. In this particular case, I'd lean towards the issue stemming from the file being located accross the network and the depth of directory in which it's saved. It is recommend that the D:\Data directory of the THM control be shared through the network allowing files to be dropped into a directory on the control from the office or origin of program. For example: When a program is made, it should then be saved to the D:\Data\"Customer prefered folder" directory so that the file resides on the control.

Thanks for your response Ryan, sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, I haven't been running the machine the past week +, was moved to a different department and had no internet access. I will be back on the machine within the next couple days and from now on I will pull my nests off the company server load them to D\data\ and pull my nests I need to run from there. I'm willing to bet this will solve my problems. I remembered this from my training but I was the back up operator and rarely ever ran the machine but when I did get to run the Thermwood was instructed by the main operator to pull the nests directly from our server to control to run. I've been the only operator for our Thermwood for over a year now and never encountered this before until recently. Anyway, I thank you again for your help and when i'm back running the machine I will let you know how things are going. Have a great day, Jim
