Labor Question
Has anyone put in a interior pocket door? I would like to know the going price for labor. I have to remove drywall from both sides, modify any structure so that the pocket door frame can be installed and hang the door. I figured that's about a 8-10 hour job.
If anyone has an opinion this please comment.
Thanks
Gary

Re: Labor Question
Sounds right to me for the work described (not including any finishing).
Caution: If the pocket door will be used to close off sections of the house that may have separate HVAC, and one side is allowed to "set back" with a resultant temperature difference between each side of the door, cheap Lowe's or Home Depot pocket doors will bow and bind. In this case, the new door must be robustly built and not easily bowed by hand pressure but is still subject to temperature effects.
regards,

Re: Labor Question
Peter,
The pocket door is going in a hallway guest rest room. The builder put a swing door in and the room is so small that the door hits the toilet go figure . So I am going to replace that door with a pocket door to allow for a little more room. Also going to bead board the walls and put some crown mold up. Hope to get out in 3 days, but you know how that goes.

How big is the room you are putting the crown up in?
Is the beadboard going around the pocket door

George,
Great video on the pocket door, the room is very small I have not measured it but if I were to guess I would say 7' X 4'

Re: Labor Question
Here is one that I let the man look at for crown mold. For year's I did all the crown mold with NO helper
now I use alot of jigs. I try to tell them all the 2 biggest things are (Inside corners add a 1/8" to the over all length)
Make a crown molding block up (Mark all the inside corners and out side corners before you DO ANYTHING.
I use a 3" block but I make them use a 16 or 24" crown block (To make up for dry wall tape ins and outs) It will make the corners SQ for them.

He is my biggest helper now I have a outside corner block I made for it.
I use it alot in the shop for the inside of the cabinets

Re: Labor Question
Gary, replies seems reasonable but just make sure you've considered and investigated if nay utilities run through this area. Electrical outlets, switches, plumbing vent or supply lines, HVAC ductwork. You've likely already thought about this but if not, it might sto the Uh-Oh moment when you rip the drywall off.
