Slab Doors/ Drawer Faces to be CNC'd: Size Question

Post by JohnLashuay »

I am in the process of creating a library of drawer faces & doors that we will mill on a cnc. They will be melamine faces that are later edge banded. If I make them the size that I want them to be, can I then change the edge banding (.5mm, 1mm or 3mm) and it will then adjust the size of the face automatically, or do I have to create a library for each type of edge banding?

Thanks,
-John

John,

I think the only place that you can do what you're asking to do, is in the Custom Layout area. Select the cabinet(s) you want to change the doors/drawer fronts on, Right Click >'Adjust Cabinet Features' > 'Change > 'Doors' or 'Drawer Fronts"... You'll lose any part editor cuts you've made to the original doors/drawer fronts.

If you didn't have PE cuts on these, and you're generating your TWD file from a room layout, I think is all you'd need. If you're creating your TWD file from a Batch list, I do think you'd need to have a separate library for each of the different door styles. One advantage of having separate libraries for this,is that the cabinets can be clearly marked/named to avoid any confusion with the door style: 3mm_Base_Pair, etc.

Hi John,
I have handled this by creating my commercial librarys with my most common banding. Then I create door and drawer fronts with all the different bandings I might need. Then I do a room layout using my standard commercial library, then if it takes a different banding I just use the change doors, drawer front settings, not to big of a deal actually. That way as i create commercial cabinets, I just save them to the appropriate library and dont have to worry about copying that particualr new cabinet into a buch of different librarys with the correct edge banding material. I just have a plam up and a plam down material, one each of a no grain p-lam and one each of a wood grain p-lam. Pretty simple and low maintence..
Hope this helps.
