CN 5.48 pocketing / 5.49 Question

Post by Josh Rayburn »

Does the 5.49 update include an error message if pockets are ignored?
For example,
If one were to have a job with 1/8" holes, and one forgot to load a 1/8" drill into the tooling setup, there would be no indication in 5.48 that those holes would be ignored.
I received a job to cut from an alternate source (not an e-cabinets file) and this circumstance was very problematic. I did not even have an indication that there were operations in the file that were ignored.
Other than that, I'm loving 5.48!!

Josh,

The scenario your seeing is due to the SETTING "Min Pocket / Leftover Area". If this value is larger than the smallest pocket area on a part, Control Nesting sees it as ok to skip an operation. For example, in your case if you want a message to appear that the a tool was not found for pocketing of a 1/8" dia. hole, you will need to specify a value of .01"^2, for the "Min Pocket / Leftover Area".

Thanks Ryan,
I do realize that, however what if I don't want to hit all my pockets on a 50 sheet job with anything but the 1/2" tool, but I do want my 1/8" holes - I would have no indication that my 1/8" holes were being ignored if the drill was accidently absent from the tooling list. This is much different from the standard errors I would have received in any CN prior to 5.48.

Or, if I have an 1/8" drill loaded for my 1/8" holes set to drill only, but no pocketing tool checked for the 3/8" wide pockets in the job, the min area set to 1/2", then all the pockets would be ignored, if I understand this correctly....

I have many instances where I may receive files from another person or company to be cut on my router. How do I know if their file contains 1/8" holes? 3mm holes?
If I have no indication that they are being ignored, then I don't even know they were supposed to be there until the pallet of 50 sheets is shipped and the customer calls to complain. That's no good for anyone.

It would be helpful if: When CN seed a drill operation and converts it to a pocket, and the pocket is subsequently ignored because of the 'min area' setting, we got an error or warning. This seems to be the only time when it is problematic.

Still love it other than that!!!!

Josh,

We plan to make it so that if an operation is a drill operation, control nesting will avoid skipping the operation without warning due to min area. Not sure on the time of release yet.
