eCabs message Huh?

Post by Donald Thomson »

I got this error message when I was trying to change the back settings for this cabinet from a .5" bottom inset to a 0" bottom inset. I've not a clue what it means. Any ideas?

Somehow the cabinet lost it's bodies. This used to happen all the time in v5 but there were a couple good fixes in v6 that eliminated the problem. what's causing it, I've no idea, but to get past it you can right click the selected cabinet in the main editor, then 'remove part editor cuts' from entire cabinet to resolve.
hope that's helpful,

Thanks Josh!

Even though I never took any parts into PE, doing the remove all PE cuts did the trick. I wonder how gremlins like these slip into my cabinets?

Donald,
It used to be caused by taking a cabinet into another editor or to the line drawing editor then saving the JOB which you can no longer do. Now you get an error message indicating you must go back to the main editor or return to the room / batch before saving the JOB.
There must be another little gremlin floating around that needs to be rounded up though....I think it's safe to assume you are running 6build3?

yup, must be a new flavor of gremlin then. do you remember exactly what you did to the cabinet in steps so TWD can reproduce it?

Yes.

Opened my job/batch containing the cabinet.
Took the cabinet into CE
Opened construction settings
On the Back tab changed the Bottom Inset from .5" to 0"
ok'd out of constructions settings
Go error dialog

That was the extent of what I was doing.

Donald, what did you do to the cabinet before that? It had 0 cabinet bodies when I first opened it - which means any rebuild via CS - OK will cause an error, so it's not only triggered by changing the bottom inset. Is this a seed cabinet that you start out with often? If so, you will need to open the seed cabinet, remove part editor cuts from entire cabinet, then re-save it. Otherwise this cabinet will cause a problem every time you go to make any change.

Josh,

In the editing session prior to the error showing up I resized the cabinet to fit properly around some existing drawer boxes I had left from another job. So the cabinet started out as a regular base cabinet that I removed the doors and drawers and toe kick and then started working on sizing it around the existing 3 drawers I had. All went well. I saved it and closed down eCabs. When I had time to work on it again and I opened eCabs, loaded the cabinet and noticed the back needed to be adjusted to the bottom of the deck with no bottom inset. BANG! - error dialog.

Don,

I am having that problem also (in fact I have been having that problem since V5) and can't find a cause. I recently sent to saves of a job to Ryan where one had bodies then the next save (after several modifications) didn't have bodies. I wish I could cure this as I now have to go through and re generate every cabinet in the job to be able to edit them again and make the changes the customer wants.

Hi Kerry,

I think it is gremlins in the HOOPS library software, or it could be in Thermwoods code. I just know it is frustrating and SOOOOOO time consuming to get things done.

eCabs is a great piece of software with so much potential. I just hope some of these issues will get resolved so I don't have to spend half a day making about 10 minutes worth of changes to a job.
