Changing Downloaded Images

Can anyone explain to me how to change the colors on downloaded images? I downloaded a fireplace from the 3d forum and it appears in black only when I open the hsf file. How do I keep the correct colors? Do I need a 3d program or can it be done in eCabinets?

You can do this in the display part editor.

You need to select an image to apply a texture or select an appearance setting.

Thanks, yes, that much I have been able to do. What I am after is how do you add several colors or texture to one object?

Ah that is a little more difficult.

You need to separate those parts you want to be different textures and then import them as individual parts.

You can then rightclick on that part to select it and texture it individually.

I noticed you had posted on the WoodWeb about this problem also.
A lot of the 3D .dxf drawings you get from the manufacturer are all on one layer, they are not broken up into parts like you are wanting to display. You must open the .dxf in a CAD program and use the Explode command to break the drawing up into it's individual parts. (sometimes you must use the Explode command more than once.) You must then select each individual part you want to texture and save it as a separate entity as a .stl file. You can then open each individual .stl file in the part editor and add a texture to create an attractive 3D model. The manufacturers assume that you are using the model in a line drawing and don't care about the texture mapping.
This is a time consuming process. but as far as I know there isn't an easier way. George Davidson is very good at this.

Thanks guys. Yes, I have posted this previously. I guess I am lazy and don't want to learn a cad program. It sounds like I can do most of what I want to do in eCabinets. Thanks Kerry for the input. I would agree, George Davidson is very good at this. So, it is as I suspected, I need to stretch my brain and learn a cad program. Any suggestions on programs?

I use Intelicad and all I have ever used it for is converting files to use in eCabinets. If I wee to purchase another program to convert files now it would be Punch Via Cad. I think Via Cad is one of George's favorites. Via Cad has free trial versions to let you try them out.
