As a strategy to get more traffic to my website the company that is building it has suggested that I buy a bank of domain names including the key words used by people who search the web. When I listed my main domain name in the lounge forum the other day the little bots that crowd the forum found my site and listed it right away. So I was thinking doing the same thing for my other domain names one at a time. If Thermwood has some objection to this let me know and I will quit doing it. And if the members find it annoying maybe you should use the idea for yourself. Thanks anyway for the opportunity.

This brings up an interesting question, how many of you guys that have a web site have actually received work from the site? I have had my site for 9 years, and a link to it from wood web for 1 year and not one hit from the site. I think they are great to act as a brochure of your work but as for as bringing in new work that's another question.

Gary,

Does your website shows on search engine inquiry on the top of the first page? Are you looking for people to find you by your company name or do you have key words or mega tags that will direct a search towards your website?
When you go into Google and you put a key word like 'kitchen cabinets saint charles', on what page is your website coming up?
I don't know what is your company name and how known you are in your area but search engine optimization (SEO) is the key to get people to come to your site. Your company name might be the last thing they are looking for.

I found your business name in your profile. I did a search with the suggested key word and your site wasn't even showing after 5 pages. Not many people will go further than the first page. But believe me there is more to it then just that. And from what I know now I wish I would have done that a year ago.

Thanks for the info. I did a search and you are correct I can not be found,
but if you use my name there i am.

The listing with woodweb in their directory has Kitchen Cabinets as a key word and according to Google it should come up.

The thing is that you should have the keyword at the top of your HTML page, hidden into the info put in there. The company who is building my website will have 50 of those keywords. But they are also a marketing company. They have done this kind of work for 13 years in something like 1100 websites. I can't wait to have mine out there because I need the work very badly. This down turn in the economy has screwed up a lot of businesses and not everyone will survive. But my business will not die.
