Fatal Error - Please help

Post by Josh Rayburn »

Good afternoon all,
I'm wondering if this message means anything to anyone....other than a debilitating crash (which is what it means to me so far)...
I've had the following error three times today so far while working in the LDE:

Dialog title: "Windows - Display driver stopped responding"
Dialog text: "The nv4_disp display driver has stopped working normally. Save your work and reboot the system to restore full display functionality. The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to Microsoft."

I have not been able to save my work after seeing this dialog.
I have not seen the dialog offering me a chance to do anything after this message appears. Prior to this dialog coming up, the machine freezes for about 3-5 minutes, allowing me to do nothing. After waiting, the dialog pops up then I'm cooked. I have no response from anything until I hold the power button to do a 'hard-shutdown' then when I reboot everything seems fine....until it happens again....

Needless to say, I cannot get a screen shot of the message because I'm dead in the water by the time it actually shows up...

I know this might or might not be related to E-cabs but it seems worth a shot - has anyone else seen this type of message or have further insight as to exactly what it means?
BTW - I saw this error message a few weeks ago, also while working in the LDE, and I updated my display driver (downloaded something from the Nvidia website) and all seemed well.....but it's back :(

I would check for a new nVidia driver update just in case there was a bug in the latest one you applied.

Hi Dan & all,
This fatal error has just re-occured again.
Display driver has latest update, is there anything else I can try to make this go away? This is really debilitating :wall: :wall:
Thanks!

Two things you could try:

1. go to settings/preferences, check or uncheck the Use Hoops Display List Option.
2. go back one or two version of the video card driver
