suggestion on applied ends

Post by Brett Nelson »

The way the software handles applied ends in V6.5 is very awkward. I would like to make a request for a programming change in that regard.

Currently, if I apply an end panel to a cabinet, it automatically reduces the cabinet box width to compensate for the added end thickness. This is an inconvenience, but is minor once I got used to it. Indeed there are certain benefits to handling it this way. For example, when applying a thin veneer to a partially exposed end when space is a concern. But it just isn't logical the way it is now. Generally, end panels are applied if the end is exposed. This usually means that there isn't a space constraint there. But I might have designed an opening in the island for a built-in microwave, so the box dimensions are critical. I then apply end panels to each end and the critical microwave opening is now too small. So in order to get around this I have to build the box and take it into a custom layout. There I can apply an end panel, then I can take it back into the cabinet editor, where I can adjust the openings to the critical dimensions. It should either add width to the existing box dimensions, or I should be able to add the end panel in the cabinet editor. Preferably the first.

The bigger problem has to do with face frame scribes. When adding a scribe to a face frame, the software should actually add width to the corresponding stile. Currently, the application simply shifts the position of the stile while maintaining the material width. The unfortunate effect there is that it changes the overlap on the doors and drawers. An efficient cabinet shop will try to keep overlaps consistent so that jigs and stops can be used to accomplish all the hinge boring.

Currently this process is very inefficient.

Brett,

When adding a scribe, eCabinets actually shrinks the size of the box and does not affect your door/drawer front overlap. Your overall face frame width stays the same.
This is as it should be.

The same goes for adding an end panel. The cabinet box shrinks and all of your face frame openings stay the same or you can apply it to the outside of the box.
