Starting Spindle While Using Hand Held Programmer

Post by Jason Wilson »

Hello,

I am attempting use an Audible Edge Finder for measuring our fences here but the way these things operate is to have the spindle rotating at about 1500 rpm when attempting to find your edge.

I need to know of a way that I can make this work.

Is this possible and if so can anyone tell me how to do this ?

Thanks

Why don't you just put a router bit in the spindle
and use your hand held to touch the face of your fence with the side of the bit ,
and then add the radius of the bit and you will know exactly where your fence is.

Will,

That is how it has been done up until this point but it seemed like a better way to use an actual edge finder to ensure that our measurements as exact as possible.

Using a half inch bit we would have to spin the bit by hand until the threads seemed as close as we could get to the fence but it was just by eye and feel and it can be hard to see when the router head is down that low.

So, yeah, we've done that.

My question is if anyone knows if it is even possible to have the spindle running while using the Hand Held to direct the head along the Axis'

Thanks

I cut my fences with my router so I know where they really are and now they're square too. Not for the faint hearted though.

After a few trials and tribulations we were able to figure our how to make this happen.

Basically we just wrote our own code to operate the spindle and then moved the head along the axis' with the Hand Held.
