Countertop to parts editor

How do I get a countertop into the editor where I can cut a hole? The parts editor is in the Cabinet Editor..I can't get there from here..
Also..is there a way to remove countertops from the Custom Layout so as to see and tweak cabinets below without deleting them?

1. Single Click to select counter top
2. right click
3. Edit options (or edit options button on tool bar above kitchen layout window)
4. Part Editor

Also..is there a way to remove countertops from the Custom Layout so as to see and tweak cabinets below without deleting them?

1. Show/ Hide button on tool bar above kitchen layout window

Thanks! I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. I was laughing because it took me less time today to cut out a real sink in a countertop than it did to cut out a virtual sink.
