Production sharing

Post by Jeremy Schiffer »

We're machining parts for a shop right now who is using another design software, so in order to avoid us having to totally design their jobs from the ground up in ecabs, we suggested they get a copy of it so they can send us the ready-to-machine job files. The owner requested the software about a week ago, and hasn't heard anything yet. He has another job he wants us to machine, and he would like to design it himself in ecabs.

How long does it normally take for someone to be able to get ecabs after signing up? Let me know if you need his name, and I'll PM it or whatever.

Thanks!

Jeremy,

Normally no more than 1 business day. They should make sure that {cabinets@thermwood.com} is an allowed email address. It seems that a lot of gmail accounts get blocked, so make sure that they put us on their whitelist. Please PM me their name and email that they signed up with and I will see if they were approved and if a welcome email was sent to them.
Regards,

Hi Jeremy,
Glad you are still getting work in. Had a funny experence the other day when I went and measured a job. The owner had a full set of kitchen plans with top view and front elevations. When I looked at the title block it was in chinese. I said to the owner where did you get these plans from and he said sheepishly that you can do a lot on the internet now days then said no more.
I wonder if Thermwood have thought about getting a no brainer software solution that operates in the cloud that prospective clients use for free but can link back into our ecabinet systems. It could be a way of stopping local working ending up with chinese kitchen cabinet importers? The software could then offer to send a copy of the plans with the same zip code as they have to a local Thermwood owner to price?
Anyway back to work.
Have a good weekend.
Regards

There was actually some discussion a couple of years ago along those very same lines, Neville. A sort of stripped-down version of ecabs that worked only from a pre-loaded library of cabinets... no cabinet editor, just custom layout & batch. It could be used in showrooms, by salesmen, or even by shops sourcing their CNC work to Thermwood shops. I imagine plans like those got put way on the back burner when the economy tanked. Maybe someday things will straighten back up, and we can get back to the excitement of looking forward to new and better things, instead of the current fear of losing what we have.

Oh well... didn't mean to end up being a bummer! Hope things are going great for ya'll down under, Neville!

Hi Jeremy,
Things have slowed a bit down for me in the last few weeks. I did put a few labourer type guys off that I employed when I was busy and one tradesman left that I haven't replaced. Strangly the componet cutting which we call flat packing has increased to one a week. This is good to keep the Thermwood busy but its one less job we work and install. I guess its better than loosing work to our version of Lowes.

Who knows maybe Ken will feel like sending some computing resources to that Cloud based service, in the future if it means he might sell a few more Thermwoods. I guess he could get a few Chinese to write the program for him. :P Then again the US programmers wouldn't be happy about that, like we are with them exporting Chinese kitchens.

Its a real winters day for us here being low C's and raining.

Regards
