Small Parts not rotating in nest?

Post by jason galbraith »

Hi all, just upgraded to the latest CN 5.69a.
Interesting thing. Previously when we were nesting we would always add small stock parts to the nest (draw backs/fronts/rails)to try and maximise our yield. We generally got around 90%. Now that we've upgraded, the smaller stock parts that we are putting in the nest, won't rotate and fill gaps in the sheet (they did before) and is cutting down our yield to around 80% at best and leaving us with heaps of crappy offcuts. Anybody?
If this is an update issue, can we do a system restore ( i did a system checkpoint save before the update) and take us back to the old version?
Is there any setting that I might be missing? In Nesting parameters, I've turned the angle slide up to 180 degrees, because with the new update, even some big pieces were inexpicably not rotating and trying to use 2 sheets instead of one.

Jason,

In Control Nesting Under Settings/Nesting Parameters Check your Part Rotation Step Angle.
I think setting this to 90 will rotate parts that have no grain direction.

Thanks Kerry, I tried that, but some randomly large parts - non grained and all out of the same material - started to nest in the wrong diretction and ended up taking two sheets instead of the one it was supposed to.

The plot thickens. It is not an update error from what I can tell. My bad, I ASSumed that because something went awry directly after I'd done the update that it was the updayes fault...I nested the job in ecabs, and it keeps throwing one piece in the wrong direction. I can't see anywhere how it might be grained. Can anyone shed light on this for me?

* Edit this is still doing weird things when I try and add pieces to fill up a nest. Example I'm left with a 250x2400 space where I can add a couple of battens - as I've normally done - , and it totally mixes up the nest and adds another sheet.

Can I roll back this update, either by installing an older version or doing a windows roll back?

Jason,

I have Thermwood Desktop Control Nesting V 5.67 on my laptop and latest V5.69 on my Desktop. They nest your parts identically using my settings.

In Control Nesting Click Action then Select Cut Line and nest in Y. I think this will give you the result you are looking for.
