eCab dwr/door size OK, but cut wrong
Hi All,
I ran into an odd occurrence today regarding ecab drawer front size vs cut size.
Background:
I build frameless cabs using Blum Tandembox Intivo and have "proofed" my ecab models by making a couple MDF cabs with no issues going from model to reality. Especially in terms of Tandembox drawer profile hole placement and drawer box component part size...all good.
I have a 2011 ShopBot PRSAlpha and am using the Thermwood ShopLink.
Problem:
I just cut a few sheets of Teragren solid bamboo for a small project and also spec'd and cut the door & drawer fronts from the 19mm bamboo. Before sending the job to the CNC, I grouped the drawer & door fronts so as to grain match. I triple checked the drawer and door dimensions in ecabs vs. what I knew to be correct based on my construction method. All good.
I sent the job and routed 3 sheets of rather expensive material. All the box panels & stretchers are good...the large cabinet assembled nicely, squarely and all assembled dims are within a mm over 2300mm total cabinet width and 640mm height. I'm very happy now.
Then I assemble the TBX drawers and begin setting up for fixing bracket drilling, which involves double checking a few dimensions...and noticed that I have a mix/match of incorrect door & drawer widths. 5mm error seems to be the common denominator. I went back and checked the ecab model...and it shows all dimensions are correct.
I'm not happy now. Looks like I'll be making some bamboo cutting boards out of the perfectly good scrap.
Any thoughts out there in the vast eCabinets mega-mind regarding this issue?
Thanks in advance.

Dan,
Did you have edge banding on the slab doors/drawers? The default is .125" thick which would result in the parts being undersized by approximately 6.35mm total.
If you get us the file used to create the twd (job, cabinet, or assembly) and also an export from your ShopBot link, we will be glad to examine it for you.

Thanks very much for your prompt reply!!
I thought your comment might result in a "forehead slap" for me...but alas, when I created the bamboo slab door I specified EB that was 0.05mm thick, primarily to make it look pretty in scabs.
I zipped and attached the two files you requested.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: eCab dwr/door size OK, but cut wrong
Dan,
Is it possible there is edge banding on these drawer fronts? I've had this in the past and found I had banding on the drawer fronts in ecabs, which compensates for banding thickness. Shows the correct dimension in ecabs, then cuts smaller the width of banding on the router.
Late to the party... just noticed replies came in before I posted.

Dan,
Just tried to download cabinet and getting errors in eCabs. It could be corrupt?
Thx

Fred,
Good thought, Scott had that one too, and for a minute I was convinced that's what I did to myself.
See reply above re: 0.05mm EB
I'll check the files again...

Re: eCab dwr/door size OK, but cut wrong
Dan,
Thanks for getting the files to us. Unfortunately, it appears that there is a glitch with grouped drawer fronts in the ShopBot Link. I have documented this issue and we will get it resolved as soon as possible. It appears that 4 of your 9 grouped parts should have been effected. Can you please confirm this for me? It would be the 2 bottom drawer fronts on each side of the cabinet (the bottom 2 of each outer stacks of 3). The only way around this for now is to remove the grouping and re-cut the 4 undersized parts. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Scott,
Thanks for your detective work. I appreciate the prompt response.
Indeed the drawer fronts you refer to (left side, lower 2 of 3 and right side, lower 2 of 3) are the offending ones.
Unfortunately this entire group of fronts is grain-matched so I created a layout using PartWorks provided with the ShopBot and re-cut the group.

No problem, glad you could get them cut. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Now that it is known, we can resolve it for the next update of the ShopBot Link. Have a good day.
