Lock

OK, I see the little lock symbol on the right side of the dimension area in the cabinet editor.

Can someone tell me what this is for? Well, I think I know it's for, but that would be pretty much of no use. Or if it has a use can someone tell me how to use this properly.

Here is a good use for the Lock feature. If you have someone who is not totally familiar with how eCabinets resizes cabinets entering cabinets in for example batch It would be useful to lock the heights of the base cabinets that have drawers because if the cabinet height is changed in batch or custom layout the drawer openings will not stay the same as you have them set in your library. This will prevent them from changing the height of that cabinet.

I guess I never looked at it from a multi user aspect. Since I'm the only one who uses it.

I can see use for the width more than anything. Mostly to limit the door size.

Still waiting for the opening lock.....

It seems the Help documentation in the software is most often overlooked.

You can do a search for this topic and it is also listed in the "What's New" section. I did find that the link for the question mark on that dialog does not link. Still the topic can be found.

It does detail how to use it. In this case, it's left up to you on how or why you'd use it depending upon your situation. The two reasons cited, limiting height and width changes because of drawer configurations or door sizing are the ones that seem to me to be the most obvious. The Locks can be set up for a range of values, i.e., 21 to 24 width or completely locked up to a specific size, i.e., 24 and 24 only.

The Help document displays the warning dialogs if the locked dimensions are exceeded.

So when all else fails, Help.

That was the first thing I tried. It said I didn't have an internet connection even though I did.

That's what I thought to. But that is what it told me. And it was interesting because I also had internet access.

We have a factory line of cabinets That come in 3inch increments but some of the cabinets offered skip sizes for example they might go to 39 inches and then skip to 48 and do not offer the sizes between so if you have someone laying out a job and they need a 42 inch cabinet and the Cabinet sizes are not locked then they could resize the 48 to 42 thinking that the person who designed the library just forgot these cabinets. That could through off every thing. My Question is how would you keep the user from overriding the dimension lock? Other than telling the not to.Is this possable?

Under Settings/Preferences there is a button to Define Design Lock Users and Groups

Yes I saw that but the help menu is not that informative It just says
Cabinet and Assembly design files and directories can be locked individually or in directories thereby restricting access to authorized users or groups. Accessed from either the File Drop-down menu or Define Design Lock Users and Groups in Settings and Preferences. If I were to set this up to lock out a user would they still be able to access the cabinets for entry in batch or custom layout or would it prevent them from using them altogether?
