Changing 5-piece door constructions settings

Post by Donald Thomson »

If I change 5-piece door constructions settings for an entire job, while I am in room layout view, through the Settings/Preferences, will that change each of the 5-piece doors in my layout globally? Or do I need to take each cabinet into cabinet editor/door editor, delete each door and add it back in - I sure hope I don't have to do this :(

I do not think that you can change the doors as you described. But you can change the doors to a different door that you designed in the door designer by clicking on the cabinets that you want to change the doors on then select adj. Features then select doors and select the new door to replace the ones currently on the cabinets that you have selected in custom layout.

Just got an email from Dennis.

He played a lot with the scenario I posed and he found out that if you do change construction settings for 5-piece doors at the room layout level, it will in fact change all of the 5-piece doors on all of the cabinets in the layout.

That was great news as it will save me a BOAT load of time..... :D

Thanks Dennis!!!!!

Scott,

Here is the exact text I got from Dennis:

"Select one cabinet. Check the cut list top rail. Then make your change. Check it again."

In other words, it appears, while in your room layout view, you can go into setting/preferences, select the 5-piece door construction parameters button, make your changes, OK out of the dialog boxes and you changes are made to all cabinets that don't have specific door construction parameters you may have used in the door/drawer editor 5-piece door construction parameters.

Now the caveat - According to Scott Vaal the settings in the door/drawer editor override any global parameters you have set up. This gives you door construction parameter control at the door level if you need it.

My original emails said to select a cabinet. I later found that was not necessary. If you change the Cope and Panel Inset changes on a Thermwood Door, it applies to all the doors globally unless the settings were specified in the Door and Drawer Designer.

I initially thought I'd need to select the cabinet so that I could view the board listing or change for a specific cabinet.

To further explain this, what I was testing was the "Default 5 Piece Door Details for Cut List" settings in "Settings and Preferences".

When you design a 5 piece door (Thermwood Door) and select the "Build in House" option, the door will use the default settings currently established in "Settings and Preferences>Default 5 Piece Door Details for Cut List", whenever a cabinet is installed in a room and has that door. If you later make changes to the default settings they will globally change all of the doors of this type in the room.

On the other hand, if you define the "Cope" and "Panel Inset" values in the Door and Drawer Designer by clicking on the "Details for Cut List" button, those settings will be unique to that door and can not be changed globally by changing the "Default 5 Piece Door Details for Cut List" settings.

Hope this make sense.
