Import batch from excell problem

I am no longer able to import a batch file from excel after a couple years of really good results.
I have updated my operating system to windows 10 and I am now using using excel 2013, I am inclined to think the problem has to do with the upgrades. Has any one had similar or any idea as to how I can again import excel to create batch files?

make sure you save the file type .xls not .xlsx
so you will have to Save as a excel 97 -2003 spreadsheet

I am still using windowes8.1 /excel2013 and have no issues importing .xlsx files into the batch.
