So for some reason my laptop isn't rendering again. It must be the windows updates breaking it. I tried backing up to a previous Nvidia driver and that worked for a little while but at some point stopped working as well.

Just revisiting this to see if anyone has figured it out. I still can't render on my laptop Dell Precision 7720 w/Quadro M1200. My older desktop is fine but hasn't had an update available in 2 years.

I have the latest driver from Jan 16th. If I switch to force rendering my screen flashes repeatedly for a good 30 seconds every time I want to move the room.

Forrest,
Are you using multiple displays and a possibly a docking station.
When Dell does a BIOS update, it messes up my settings for the Thunderbolt ports that I have the docking station plugged into.
I have to go ingo BIOS and re-check a box to allow booting through the Thunderbolt ports.

Hey Kerry, I do use a dell thunderbolt but not all the time and rendering doesn't work when it's undocked either. I'll look into the bios settings and let you know results.

Thanks

Hey Forrest, have you tried totally uninstalling and doing a clean reinstall of the NVidia driver? Also check to see if it is sharing system memory in addition to the discrete graphics memory - if so, try disabling that if possible. If not, try enabling it if possible lol

Also check your swap file size/configuration (is it system managed or not?) and make sure you have plenty of hard drive space left.

Forrest,

What driver version are you using from Nvidia? You can find it by right clicking on your desktop, choose Nvidia Control Panel. If you are on Windows 11 you'll need to do Show More Options to see it. Then go to Help, and System Information.

I tried everything suggested so far with no results. I'm running the latest driver release from Jan. 30th, 572.16.

I've also ran a hardware test that shows the card is working.

Forrest,

Go to this page https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/, under the Manual Driver Search enter your computer info, making sure to pick Quadro Series (Notebooks), then choose Find. On the next page you'll see the 572.16 driver, then below is the View More Versions, click the drop down arrow on the right. Scroll down and look for the driver NVIDIA RTX / Quadro Desktop and Notebook Driver Release 470, should be driver version 475.14. Click View, then download and install. May require a reboot.

Give that a go. You may need to reset your Nvidia Control Panel settings for eCabinets to always use the High Performance Card all the time. The Windows setting for Graphics should stick for eCabinets. Let me know how that performs.

Thanks Clint that worked! It seems a little slow but other than that does fine.

It did give me a warning that it may auto update when docking. Never seen that before.

Good deal. I'll revisit this post when I get information about a permanent fix. I haven't used a dock with this laptop, but my office mate uses his when in office. Between updates for it, Windows updates, and Dell Command updates, someone is bound to overwrite the installed driver for a "better" one.
