Eye candy

If you're a skywatcher, it's been a very good year. If you're not a skywatcher, then why not? You're missing out on nature's greatest show. All photos taken by me.

I would love to see all these, but I keep hearing about them the day after when everyone is posting pictures on Facebook. I did hear about the comet the day before, then promptly forgot to put it on my calendar as a reminder.

Just be careful out there Jeremy, that portal could open anytime.

Experienced, good, CNC operators are in great demand in this universe.
They may just come and take you away to an alien workshop in a space colony and have you machining wood for the rest of your life.
(don't ask me where they get the wood from in space please)

Clint, the good news is, as the earth's magnetic field weakens, aurora displays like that become more common. The bad news is, the earth's magnetic field is weakening, and these frequent auroras visible from low latitudes are an indicator of that. lol...just keep looking up and keep a camera handy!

Yeah, I definitely was humming the X files theme when I took the picture!
Being as astronomy has been my lifelong hobby, I have always dreamed of getting to see the sky from Australia. Can't see those southern stars from here. We should trade for a while, then you could see the northern stars you never get to see. :joker:

Luck was on my side last night. As I was laying in bed, doing last minute scrolling on Facebook, I saw a friend had posted her photos an hour earlier. Annoyed that I once again missed it. Kept scrolling, and saw a post from her sister that was only 30 minutes ago. Convinced myself to head outside, and was immediately wowed, first time seeing it anywhere other than pictures. In southern Indiana, this was my view, even with the naked eye. Used my Pixel 7, only using Night Sight to get a little bit brighter, but they were easily seen in pink with the naked eye. The green came in from the camera.

Awesome Clint! We had a great show here too, in north GA. Got lots of pictures...I would post them, but they look very much like yours. There is nothing like seeing it first hand. It's otherworldly. Glad you finally got to see it!
