Surface Chipping During Ramp-In

Post by PlatinumDave »

I am hoping someone can help me. I tried Google AI and we all know that didn't work. I am having issues with 3/4 and 5/8 melamine chipping during the ramp in process during the outline of parts. I've included my settings below. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance!

Tool used for Outline: 1/2" Up/Down Sheer with 2 Flutes.
##Tooling Settings##
Feed Speed: 600IPM
Plunge Speed: Was 75IPM and tried 200IPM
Spindle: 18'000 RPM
Ramp in Angle was 15Degrees, I tried 6Degress at the same time I increased Plunge Speed.
Pre-Ramp Unchecked at 0Degrees.

##Machine Settings##
Outline Pre-Ramp Depth: 0.125"
Outline Ramp in Length: 3" (I did try 6" as well)

Your pre-ramp depth looks a little shallow. You'll want to make sure your pre-ramp depth is enough to get past the upspiral of the tool before it begins ramping in. You may need to drop RPMs a little bit too, maybe to around 15,000.
