Recently we've had bearing failure on our CS45 Router in the spindle cartridge. Given the downtime and cost required to have the cartridge replaced and any rebuilding done my management team has blessed me with a new or entirely rebuilt Router Unit. I've already removed the one that has been in service for us for 8 years running 8-14 hour days for most of that.
Has anyone on here done a complete replacement of the whole unit as opposed to just the spindle cartridge as per this thread viewtopic.php?t=13080&sid=c69a5bc44d111 ... eplacement? What advice or pointers would you give for installing the new one? Thanks in advance, advice much appreciated!
Provided you are going like for like on the spindle (as in exact same unit), there shouldn't be too much involved after. After installation of the new unit, you'll need to:
1. Tram the spindle for front/back (will likely require shims).
2. Tram the spindle for left/right.
3. Reset pickup/dropoff locations for the tool changer.
4. Reset SWITCHSPOIL.
5. Reset your fixture offset(s) (G52L# or G90# locations)
6. Warmup the spindle,
7. Measure all tools.
8. Flycut.
9. Get back to business as usual.
Before running the new spindle, now would be an excellent time to do a really good inspection on all tool holders. If it is an ISO-30 taper, check the retention knobs for cracks and/or sharp edges. Clean tool holder tapers and inspect for excessive corrosion and any marring.
