Random Z-move E-Stop

Post by Josh Rayburn »

Twice today I have experienced a random E-stop with no error message.

Both times it happened, the router was raising the Z axis for a tool change.
First time was in the middle of a tool change subroutine after the tool had been loaded and seated properly. Z-raise, then ATC arm actuated, tool seated and locked, then Z raise, retract ATC arm, then E-stop.

Exiting TWD software and restarting yielded the same result on the same code, I tried that twice.
Complete shut-down, power off, then reboot and the same code ran fine. :)

Just happened again, at the beginning of a tool change subroutine, on the initial Z-raise prior to the arm actuating (is that a word :?: ) to receive the tool.
:(

I've just shut down for the day after the second incident.

Any ideas?  Perhaps a corrupted tool change subroutine?
:wall:

Anytime the machine goes into estop it writes to the plc screen why. Next time this happens, check the plc screen to see what error is showing there. Once we know the error, we can then correct the issue. On the older software the plc screen can be found under the F3 Display button. On the newer software(version 7 and up) the plc is found under the maintenance menu. Hope this helps.

Hi Daniel,
I looked at the PLC error log, and it seems that this error coincides with the faults that I experienced.
"The PLC Turret Shotpin System Failed"
I don't know what that means. Also, is there a way to export that error log to send to you? I cannot copy / paste or print screen from that point.
Thanks!

Josh,

While viewing the PLC screen or the History screen, press Alt+PrtScn. That will capture the active window. Then open Wordpad and press Ctrl+V. The will paste the screen shot. Then you can save the file and send it to Daniel.

Good Luck.

Hi Josh,

It sounds like the plc history file is corrupt and sending incorrect error messages to the Thermwood PLC screen.
Shut down the Thermwood software. Go to C:\System directory and delete the "plchist.thm" file.
Reload the Thermwood software and then try and do a tool change. If it estops again, check the PLC screen under
Maintenance and see what error shows. Let us know what that error message says.
