Shop bot link won't open TWD file?

Post by Ron Jones »

Yes this is my first day with my new link, LOL I have created a TWD file but when I try to load it with my shop bot link it simply blinks and nothing happens, nothing comes up to "add" or select. Any help would be most appreciated!!

In addition this is my first try at cutting a cabinet so if anyone has any tips that would be awesome!!

Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,

Welcome to SBLink and eCabs. It is a great way to design and cut cabinets.

A couple of tips:

PRACTICE!, PRACTICE!, PRACTICE!
Don't make the mistake I made and have your first SBLink job be a 75 cabinet custom job. You will have problems, you will need to work on solutions. Once you get things humming along smoothly, make a customer's kitchen.

Make your cuts in two passes. Make the first cut a climb cut. Leaving a skin. The second cut will then be a conventional cut leaving a super edge and a part exactly the right size.

If you don't have the manual tool changer files then try and make all your dados and cuts using a single bit. These are a series of Custom files that are available but you would need to customize for your machine. Not to be undertaken lightly. You have to know SB coding to undertake this route. There is no tech support for these files. Before I switched to the tool change files, I used a 3/8" mortise compression for everything. My cuts we clean and mortise and tenon joints were tight.

Make sure you use a micrometer on all your job material and make these adjustments when you create the TWD file. Micrometer all your bits to know the EXACT diameter, not what the manufacturer told you it was.

Make sure the bed of your table/spoil board is good and flat. This is key to getting things to cut right.

As far as the TWD file loading - I assume you clicked the "Load" button on the main screen. You then got another screen titled "Load" and there is another "Load" button on this screen. Click it and you will be prompted for the file. Once you select the file it should come up on the screen. If not, recreate your TWD file again and try it again. If this is not working then you will need to call Thermwood support to find out what is going on.
Sincerely,

Don Thomson

Don,
Thanks for the input! Some of what you mentioned I have learned the hard way just cutting various other sheet goods and some, well I hadn't a clue.

Yeah on the TWD file, I have been through the process a couple times now... I have a call into Thermwood:(

Thanks,
Ron
