Gary,
You're right, the technology is in the software already. I do the same as you with pilot holes as an RTA pattern, and the problem is that holes created by JOINERY functions cannot overlap or else the "outline" of the joinery is affected (i.e. the compin on the blind dado itself that is created as a result)....HOWEVER....a part editor hole properly constrained CAN overlap the dado, even the edge of the dado, without ill effect. This can be done from either side of the part, and does not have to be stopped even with the depth of the dado from the opposite side. This seems to be created as a separate DRILL operation and does not interfere with the blind (or full) dadoes' compin operation that is generated by the post.
So ultimately we're doing it already - we just need a better or automated way to do it. The technology to place holes automatically and space them (like an RTA pattern, i.e. distance from edge, and max space between) properly is there too - so I only wonder, being a simpleton who knows nothing about programming, could it be easily incorporated or modified to give us all what we seek?
It seems by the responses thus far that this would be a very worthwhile feature, hopefully this might convince TWD to take a good look and put it towards the top of the wish list...?
