Newbie question re: tools

Haven't used this part of software yet. I hope I can get some basics understood.
I have a 12" x 12" X 3/4" panel mdf. I would just like to add a square 8" x 8" on top using a V- groove bit 1/4" deep. I have checked the tool library but do not see a "V" bit. Sorry for basic newbie question. I understand I have to add a Square dxf file on top. Also once this is done, how does the thermwood know to pick the bit to pick that bit?
