Installing Build 5 of 5.1

Post by Rob Davis »

I got the message today to beware my version has only 5 days before expiring. I did the download from the forum, uninstalled the version I had and then ran the installer for b5. It still says I am going to expire. So, I ran the download from the thermwood web site and the same results. Restarted my computer and did it agin, nothing. Restarte again and open eCabs, I am still on 5.1 build 4

Suggestions? (besides operator problem, which I am certain is accurate)

First, did you save the update file to your computer or run it from the website? You have to save it locally before running it.

Second, never unstall before installing an update unless Thertmwood has given explicit instructions to do so. Most updates simply replace a few program files that have been changed and do not contain the entire eCabinets install.

Dan,
Yes I did save it to my computer and ran it from there.
By \"uninstall\" I mean that when the process goes through the Install Wizard, it asks me to remove the version already there before I can install the update, (probably because I have tried it multipple times so it thinks it is already there?). It does the remove, then I run the file from my saved location and it does the Install Wizard thing and says i am doen. I go to open eCabs and it does and tells me it need s to verufy the update and make sure my internet connection is open. When it goes to verify by transmitting my data to Thermwood, it reverts to the build 4 and tells me I have only 45 days left before it expires.

I'm stumped!

Hmmmm...I didn't get a \"remove\" message (that I remember).

Have you tried downloading the update again?

If that doesn't work, you might try completely uninstalling then reinstalling version 5 from the CD then reinstall the update.

Rob,

Are you running Vista?

Have you checked the time and date on your computer to be sure it is correct? (if this is changed you will get a error at the start and need another code)

Also check the build # on e_cabinets now.

I get the remove dialog if I attempt to remove the same version I am trying to install.

Rob,

I would try downloading it again, saving it to your HD and running it once more. With only 3 days left were at a point of a total melt down of the state.

If this doesn't solve it.
1. Do a backup of your files,
2. Uninstall e_cabinets,
3. Reinstall e_cabinets
4. Run the update before you start the program.
5. Start the program enter your code and this should get you going again.

For the sake of posting the solution, here is what made it work and if you want to know why, call Thermwood (Daniel), not me.

make sure you are the administrator of the computer
run update from hard drive
When it asks to remove program, say yes
click finish
restrart the computer before doing anything else
Once started, run the update from hard Drive
install wizard completes and it is golden!!!

Thanks to those who helped.
