I was watching a show last night about the possibilities of a mega-drought. In they show they were comparing current drought conditions in the southwest to the great dust bowl of the 1930's.
What town did they highlight from the 1930's? Dalhart, Texas!!! It appears that Dalhart was hit pretty hard by the drought. They said the mayor actually issued a \"last man to leave, turn off the lights\" proclaimation.
While the show focused on the southwest, drought has hit the southeastern states pretty hard this year too. It looks like we are all in for hard times ahead if we don't start getting some rain.
We are so bad here that all outside water use is banned and commercial water users have been ordered to cut 10% of their consumption. The major industry here is carpet (we are the Carpet Capital of the World) and they use a lot of water in manufacturing. Some plants are starting to shut down to conserve water.
If it keeps going, our mayor may have to issue a \"last man\" proclaimation.
