32 MM system

Post by Ed Conklin »

A while back, I posted a message asking how folks got the correct hole patterns in eCab for the 32 MM system. Someone responded saying to put a 'dummy' shelf in 1.0807" from the deck. That worked out pretty well. Someone else also responded saying the logic to fully handle the 32MM system was high on the priority list as a new capability in future eCab releases. Can anyone give an update on this topic?

To put my two cents worth in, I would like to be able to put in the hole patterns without installing a shelf ('dummy' or real). I would also like to be able to have a third set of holes. With some of the new 'soft close' slides, it is more convenient to have the back holes further forward which is not so good if you also want to install an adjustable shelf.

If you are doing your boxes on a CNC I can't see any reason to do system holes. They are just extra holes which allow more formaldehyde to leak out and to add to the time for putting a cabinet together. If you just place the holes with the hardware it's easy to figure out where things like slides and hinges mount without the hole counting or locating jigs. You can easily edit the hole patterns for the slides to give you any number in any location.

Ed, could you please explain for us what role "system holes" play in a cabinet carcase? If we've an array of holes to handle your adjustable shelving situations, and the software has been used to place all the holes you need for hinges and drawerslides, what benefit are "sytem holes?"

Furthermore, what equipment will you be using to bore them?
