Placing Crown Mold?

I am wondering if there is an easier way to apply crown molding to cabinets? When I place it on a cabinet in cab. editor then move into create a room and place several cabinet together the crown always extends past the cabinet next to it. When there are two wall cabinets meeting in a corner (one having a blind corner), the molding on each cabinet extends to the wall. It seems to be a situation where I have to explain to a customer that the crown will not do that on the job when installed. Any help?

John... You can add all your cabinets to a room and then figure out your lengths and add the crown after. This room was all done after.

When you place moldings on a cabinet that butts to another cabinet. Uncheck left or right moldings in the molding editor and change the joint construction to overlap. eCabinets will not place the molding on the end of that cabinet.

When I place the molding the way you say I have problems getting the miter. How do you accomplish this? I could get the correct lenght but the miter would not show.

I am assuming you are meaning to add the molding before I place it in a room. If that is so then I am unable to place the wall units at 83" off the floor. It sets the cabinet at 83" but it reads the crown molding as the cabinet top. Does this really make a difference over all? If I place a finished end or a raised end panel on a fridge leg then it comes up to short. I am off on something?

John -- You can place 1 piece of mldg. and then copy and paste it again and again. Then you highlight the mldg. and RC and EDIT mldg. where you can set length and angle on ends then Rotate it to where it should be.

Thanks for the advice. I understand now what you are talking about. Sorry for the stupid attack. I will try this when I can get on the ecabs computer. Me and my wife are both running business programs on the same computer until I can get a laptop for ecabs only. It seems easy enough to do it now that I see what you are talking about.

Before you rush out and buy a laptop John, make sure you check out the recommended systems for eCabinets.

A workstation-class laptop is needed and trying to get by with an underpowered laptop can make using eCabinets painful.

Your cabinets should place the top of the cabinet at your selected height regardless of top molding.

To extend the molding for your end panels etc use the Scribe settings in the molding editor. To extend past a 3/4" thick right end panel, use a 3/4" right scribe on the molding. Using a negative scribe will shorten a molding.
If you use a scribe on your face frame you will also have to add that scribe to your moldings.

Be sure to listen to Dan. It takes quite a laptop to run eCabinets efficiently.

Yes, she went for it. We don't do anything on loan. Cash only. We will shop around before purchasing one. Thanks for the link, that will help. Ecabs also recommends an HP. Whoa, that is exspensive. Nice I'm sure but expensive. I am running ecabs on a Dell PC right now. I like it. I think I will stick with Dell. It will be a little while, but I know it's coming.

I used to be an HP reseller several years ago. I think they have finally started producing decent workstations again but, for several years, they were not quite so good. HP also suffered when they bought Compaq and started relabeling Compaq PCs as HP. Like I say though, I think they have made it over that hump and are back on the road to the quality thery were once known for.

Dell is similar in many ways. When they first started there was no good reason to buy a Dell. Now, their quality and service is so good that the only computers (workstations or servers) I will buy are Dell.

I have bought several refurbished systems from the Dell Outlet over the last year or so and couldn't be happier with them.
