User Defined materials

Post by DarrelMWood »

Okay, tell me what I"m doing wrong. I think I have a tech-cloud hanging over my office.
Long story short-----5.2 is causing me no end of grief on my laptop. It's also causing grief on my desktop.
So, since I have a $50,000 kitchen job resting on getting this rendering done, I've set my laptop back to 5.1....after some mishaps, but it's there. I have all the cabs I created and modified in 5.2, but I cannot open them. I get a HOOPS error message.
Okay, fine, I'll start anew. Except all my defined sheet goods, solid wood, edgeband, countertop materials, etc. are gone on my laptop. Okay, most are on my desktop, I'll just need to add a few. So I do a backup from my desktop, and then restore it to my laptop ecabs. Nothing. Everything else is saved in my directories except this. I've done a search of both the manual and this forum, and I come up with almost-but-not-quite answers.
Have I slipped into the twilight zone, have I slipped into mental illness? So far I have lost three days on this.
I was even having problems posting to the forum.

You need to copy the ecabinets.mdb file from the desktop and place it in the ecabinetsystems directory on your laptop. this will give you your materials. I would like to know what issues you were having with the V5.2. IF you can send any jobs or cabinets with steps to get me to what you are having trouble with. Thanks

I thought I tried to do that, and got an error message that the file already existed so I'd have to rename it (didn't give me the option of overwriting).
The 5.2 issues are on another forum thread (which I unsuccessfully tried to upload a file to several times today, hence my thought that I was cursed in all things technical today).
Right now I'm rebuilding the project from the ground up in 5.1 (starting with each seed cabinet created directly from scratch using the standard directory). Once I get to a certain point I'll open it up in 5.2, which is still installed on my desktop. It might have been a specific corruption in a seed cabinet that just kept reproducing as I added cabs.
I'm hoping it works in 5.2, because after having a taste of 5.2 I like it better.

Hey Justin---

I've tried to upload the file to the forum, but it won't connect....I keep getting a timeout. (Is there a limit to size?)
I've been creating the same kitchen simultaneously on my laptop in 5.1, and on my desktop in 5.2.
The file for the 5.2 kitchen is about 24mg.
So far the kitchen in 5.1 is doing pretty okay (only a couple freeze ups, and that probably from me being impatient and not letting a process finish before going on to the next one), the 5.2 one is freezing up now.....I have to do one task, such as place a cabinet, and then save the job, and then do another task, such as move the cabinet, and then save the job--if it lets me.
Where the freezes happen is when I go from one task to another---go from elevation view where I placed a cabinet, back to layout view. Going from cabinet editor, taking the cabinet back to custom layout. Trying to save the job freezes is up a lot.
